The Valley Players are taking their spring shows on the road this month and tickets are already sold out for the 38th Annual Cabin Fever Follies.

The show is set for Saturday, April 11, at The Big Picture Theater in Waitsfield. It’s still possible to get on the wait list for the single-night performance. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for dining with a 7:30 p.m. showtime.

This popular variety show features many community acts as local performers take the stage to shake off the winter blues. The program welcomes a wide range of acts including singing, fiddling, banjo-playing, improv comedy, poetry, storytelling, magic, and more. Proceeds support the nonprofit Valley Players organization.

Next up on the following weekend is the 6th Annual Mad River Story Slam at the Village Meeting House (below the Waitsfield Church) on Main Street in Waitsfield. The show is Friday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m.

This year’s theme is “I Should Not Have Been the One in Charge!” and the organizers explain it this way: “Ever been handed the clipboard, the keys, or the ‘simple’ plan… and everything went gloriously sideways? This year’s Story Slam celebrates the chaos, comedy, and cringe of being accidentally in charge.”

The program will feature 10 original stories. Tickets: $10

Both events are hosted by Valley Players Board members Doug Bergstein and Susan Loynd. For more information, tickets for the story slam, and email instructions to get on the follies waitlist, visit valleyplayers.com or call 802-583-1674.

The Valley Players are presenting their spring programs at venues away from their home theater on Main Street in Waitsfield while it is undergoing renovations. The community theater group also is pausing its usual busy schedule of performances this year apart from the April lineup. It still plans its annual Mad River Valley Craft Fair over Labor Day weekend at Kenyon’s Field as usual. The theater is expected to be ready to reopen for performances ini 2027.

More details about the renovation project (and a chance for patrons to support that effort) are online at valleyplayers.com.
