Wheels Around Waterbury 2021

Julhy 2, 2021 | By Jesse McDougall

For nearly two decades, Wheels Around Waterbury has been a quintessential summer camp in our town from teaching kids bicycle basics to giving older riders confidence on local mountain bike trails.

Jason Bahner founded the camp, creating a welcoming environment and hiring enthusiastic young riders as counselors to teach new campers. Each week, a new group of riders gets out every day to face new challenges and sharpen their skills and confidence.

Now in his 19th year, Bahner is happy to put COVID-19 in the rear-view mirror and get back on the trails. With bike counselors Tristan Von Duntz and Hayden Ellms, Wheels Around Waterbury is still going strong on the Perry Hill trail network. You might see them taking a dip in the river or biking into town for a creemee, too.

Jesse McDougall caught up with them at the start of the 2021 summer camp season and filed this video report.
