Career center bond: Info hearing Oct. 7; ballots available now
October 3, 2025 | By Lisa Scagliotti
Ballots are now available for the Central Vermont Career Center bond vote that will take place on Nov. 4.
On the ballot is a single question for voters to consider whether to bond for up to $149 million to build a new Central Vermont Career Center facility.
The proposal calls for building a 167,000-square-foot modern school on 27 acres in the Graniteville section of Barre. The project would more than double the space at Spaulding High School, where the career and technical training center has been located since it opened in 1969.
Municipal clerks in the CVCC School District now have ballots and voters in the member communities – including all of the Harwood school district towns – may cast a ballot in person at their town or city clerk’s office during regular hours. Voters also may call or email their local clerk to request a ballot by mail. Those need to be turned in by the time the polls close on Nov. 4.
The warning for the career center vote contains a list of all of the voting locations by town. All polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 4. Waterbury voting will be held at the municipal offices. Duxbury will set up its drive-up booths outside the town office and highway garage on Vermont Rt. 100.
Given that this is not a regular election year, the career center bond will likely be the only item for voters in most communities unless local officials have placed another item up for a vote. There are no other special elections in Waterbury, Duxbury, or the Mad River Valley communities.
Public meetings
The Central Vermont Career Center School District will hold a hybrid public informational meeting about the proposed construction project and bond vote on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m., in person in Room 134 of the Career Center which is located at Spaulding High School, 155 Ayers Street, Barre.
