November 3, 2026 | By Lisa ScagliottiAlthough the final ballots will be cast on Tuesday, results of the Central Vermont Career Center bond vote will not be tallied until Thursday.
That’s because the district combines all of the ballots from across its 18 municipalities for one overall count – individual tallies by town are not done.
Voters across Washington County have a separate ballot to vote on two Central Vermont Career Center questions: Whether to approve a $54.9 million bond to build a second career center facility a the U-32 High School campus and whether to approve a 30-year lease for land at U-32 for the project. In addition, voters in the Washington Central Unified Union School District where U-32 is located have an additional question to vote on whether their district should lease the high school site to the career center district for the project.
On election night after the polls close, most clerks across the district will only count the number of career center ballots they received before those ballots are sent to the central count.
Tabulating machines used in Barre City, Barre Town, Montpelier and Waterbury will be used for that count on Thursday to be held at the Barre Auditorium. Ballots from the other 14 communities will be fed into the tabulating machines for the combined count that will begin at 9 a.m., according to district officials.
The process will be overseen by Barre Town Clerk Tina Lunt, who also serves as district clerk for the Central Vermont Career Center. Election results will be announced on Thursday afternoon.
