It’s time to vote

October 31, 2026 | By Lisa Scagliotti

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Voters may still drop off ballots at town clerk's offices on Monday and in ballot drop boxes that day (Boxes will be locked at the close of business on Monday.)

The polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Brookside Primary School in Waterbury and at the Duxbury town office drive-through.

Voters can bring their ballots received in the mail to drop off at the polls. If you don’t have that ballot, that’s OK. You can sign a form and receive a new ballot to mark at the polling place.

There are two ballots for this election in Waterbury, Duxbury and other communities in Washington County: the General Election ballot mailed to all active voters, and the Central Vermont Career Center ballot with questions about a bond and lease to build a second career center facility at the U-32 High School campus. (Read more about that here.)

Both ballots will be available at the polls on Tuesday.

Waterbury Town Clerk Wes Pollock late this week said nearly 1,500 early ballots had been cast. Waterbury is among the top 10 Vermont cities and towns for early voting, according to the Vermont Secretary of State’s office.

Important details

  • There is no school on Tuesday in the Harwood district.

  • Vermont allows same-day voter registration on Election Day, so new voters can register and vote at the polls if necessary. (Bring ID and proof of residence.)

  • Check the status of your ballot if you voted by mail using the Vermont Voter Portal here.

  • See the online Vermont Voter Guide prepared by the Secretary of State’s office here.

  • You can bring someone else’s sealed, voted ballot to drop off at the polls.

  • FOOD DRIVE: Waterbury voters are asked to help out the Waterbury Common Market by bringing a non-perishable food item or a monetary donation to a collection at Brookside Primary School when they vote. If you already have voted, you can chip in online or by check. More details are here.

We can’t cover it all, but we can share links to some of the best reporting by larger Vermont news organizations on the statewide races for governor, lieutenant governor, Congress and more. See Vermont Public, VTDigger and Seven Days. The Roundabout has included posts on statewide races from The Times Argus on the Roundabout Elections page as well. WCAX Channel 3 and WPTZ Channel 5 television stations have held candidate debates for the key statewide offices. See their websites for those recordings.

On Election Night, the major news outlets on their websites will be sharing results that are compiled by the Vermont Secretary of State’s office. Anyone can watch the returns as they come in on the SOS Elections Results webpage. It’s already set up and ready for results to land. Check it out here.
