A news release from Vermont State Police Trooper Ryan Normile said no one was seriously injured in the incident, which happened just before 2:45 p.m. near Suss Drive and Cold Hollow Cider Mill.
Troopers determined that the crash happened with 79-year-old Mary Cricenti of Milton, Delaware, was traveling north and fell asleep at the wheel. Her 2025 Subaru Outback crossed the double yellow center line and struck a utility pole.
The pole then fell onto a Ram 1500 pickup, driven by Timothy Bachman, 67, of Millersville, Pennsylvania.
Headed south, Bachman swerved to avoid an additional collision, causing his vehicle to overturn.
Bachman and his passenger, Christine Bachman, 65, also of Millersville, had minor injuries, according to the report, and they were taken to Central Vermont Medical Center for evaluation. Cricenti was uninjured, police said, noting that everyone in both vehicles was wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Cricenti’s vehicle sustained significant front-end damage and Bachman’s vehicle was heavily damaged on the driver’s side, police said.
A Green Mountain Power crew responded to repair the pole and power lines that came down in the incident. The outage page on the GMP website indicated some 300 customers were without power after the incident. Power was restored by about 8:30 p.m.
State police were assisted at the scene by members of the Waterbury Fire Department, Waterbury Ambulance Service, and Stowe Police Department.
