Vermont State Police are seeking the public’s help as they investigate numerous vehicle break-ins and one vehicle theft in downtown Waterbury this week.
On Monday, police received multiple reports from residents on Union and High streets regarding vehicles that were rummaged through, with some items taken, as well as a report of a stolen 2012 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. The missing pickup is gray with the Vermont license plate 309A478. The owner described the vehicle as having “rust, dents, and beach access stickers on the tailgate.”
During the investigation, troopers learned that a bank card was taken from one of the vehicles involved in these incidents. On Tuesday, police learned of the card being used at a gas station in South Burlington. Surveillance video from the gas station shows a man who had allegedly used the card. Troopers shared a photo from that footage and ask for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual.
In addition, anyone in the High and Union street neighborhoods and nearby who has a surveillance camera is asked to check for activity they may have recorded during the nighttime hours of Sunday, Dec. 21, into Monday, Dec. 22.
Meanwhile, Waterbury Roundabout has learned of a separate spate of vehicle break-ins in the Spruce Haven neighborhood on Friday-Saturday, Dec. 19-20. They similarly involved thefts of items from vehicles and, in at least one case, a stolen credit card was used to make fraudulent purchases in Chittenden County.
Anyone with information that can help investigators find the man in the photo or any information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact Trooper Mae Murdock at the Berlin barracks at 802-229-9191. Anonymous tips may be provided online at vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.
