Work on the Interstate 89 southbound paving project between Waterbury and Montpelier is resuming for the season and is expected to be completed by August, according to the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
The project stretches between I-89 Exit 8 (Montpelier) and Exit 10 (Waterbury/Stowe).
Work to be completed this season includes guardrail upgrades at Exit 8 and Exit 9 (Middlesex) ramps, and completion of the top paving layer throughout the project limits, including at the Exit 8 and Exit 9 ramps. Final steps will be pavement markings, striping, etc.
Starting on Monday, April 27, the work schedule will be between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Motorists should expect minimal delays starting just north of Exit 10 in Waterbury as crews install construction approach signs and close the southbound passing lane.
The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph within the project limits, and fines for speeding will be doubled.
