Road Work | June 15-19
June 13, 2026 | By Waterbury RoundaboutWeekly Road Work reports are assembled with information from the Vermont Agency of Transportation on projects in the region, the Waterbury Public Works Department, and other local highway departments for projects in Waterbury and neighboring communities as necessary.
Motorists are reminded to drive with caution through work zones and to follow posted speed limits. Speeding fines are doubled in work areas along the interstate.
Waterbury
Downtown
There have been several schedule changes so far, but Interim Town Manager Bill Woodruff says that this could be the week that the project to repave Park Row and Rotarian Place near Rusty Parker Memorial Park happens in downtown Waterbury.
The work is weather-dependent and has been postponed several times this spring. The old, broken pavement will be milled and removed and a new layer of asphalt will be put down.
The exact days for this work have not been announced. Park Row between the railroad tracks and Proud Flower, and Rotarian Way will be closed to traffic when the work is taking place. This post will be updated when more details are available.
Waterbury Center
The town Highway Department will be doing shoulder work on Kneeland Flats Road past Shaw Mansion Road and shoulder/ditch work on Shaw Mansion on the Kneeland Flats end.
Roadside mowing will continue in the center area.
Paving on Barnes Hill Road may get scheduled. That work is weather-dependent.
This post will be updated when more details are available.
Interstate 89 | Waterbury-Richmond, southbound
This project is just getting fully underway and involves resurfacing 15.6 miles of Interstate 89 between now and October, according to the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
The project will span from mile marker 63 (which is 0.8 mi. south of Waterbury’s Exit 10) to mile marker 78.6 (0.5 mi. north of Exit 11 in Richmond). It will include the on- and off-ramps at both the Exit 10 (Waterbury) and Exit 11 (Richmond) interchanges.
This week: Expect delays on the southbound side of I-89 between Exit 11 and Exit 10. Motorists should expect one-lane of travel beginning south of Exit 11 and continuing for 15.6 miles to Exit 10 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the week. Crews will begin by milling and removing the existing pavement.
Expect slow-moving, one-lane travel within the work zone with the speed limit reduced to 55 mph. Reminder: Fines are doubled.
Motorists might consider using U.S. Route 2 in this stretch to avoid the interstate delays.

Work continues this week on the I-89 southbound resurfacing project between Waterbury and Montpelier that began in 2025.
It will be slow-going through this work zone this week, Monday-Friday, with lane closures as crews put down the top layer of pavement between Exit 10 (Waterbury-Stowe) and Exit 8 (Montpelier). Motorists also should expect uneven lanes and milled surfaces in sections.
Last week, crews worked on milling and prepping the bridge approaches and began putting down the top pavement layer.
This week, Monday-Friday, between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., paving will be taking place, weather permitting. Temporary pavement markings also will be put down on the newly paved sections. Afterwards, crews will focus on shoulders.
Reminder: The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph, and fines are doubled in the work zone.
