Road Work | Nov. 3-7

October 31, 2025 | By Lisa Scagliotti

Weekly Road Work reports are assembled with information from the Vermont Agency of Transportation on projects in the region, the Waterbury Public Works Department, and other local highway departments for projects in Waterbury and neighboring communities as necessary.

Motorists are reminded to drive with caution through work zones and to follow posted speed limits. Speeding fines are doubled in work areas.

Bridge project is complete - Feedback requested

Officials with the Stowe Street bridge project issued their final weekly update on Friday saying that the work is substantially complete.” Crews will be on site one day during the week of Nov. 3-7 (weather dependent) to apply a silane water repellent to the sidewalks, the update notes. No further impacts to traffic on or near the bridge are anticipated.

Feedback wanted

The Vermont Agency of Transportation is seeking feedback from the public regarding the bridge construction and communication throughout the project, which began in mid-June. Local residents and travelers familiar with the project are asked to complete a short survey here about their experience during the construction period. “The survey should take no more than 5 minutes to complete, and your feedback will provide valuable insight to the project team,” officials said in their final update.

The Stowe Street bridge construction was a $4.34 million Vermont Agency of Transportation project replacing the two-lane bridge built in 1928 over the Thatcher Brook near the intersection of Stowe Street, Vermont Route 100 and Blush Hill Road.

Also in Waterbury

Electronic signboards on Vermont Route 100 near the Interstate 89 on/off ramps are alerting drivers to upcoming night work scheduled for Nov. 2-11. The Agency of Transportation says they have a project on the bridge over the interstate, which will be done during overnight shifts. Between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily, the stretch of Rt. 100 at the interchange involving the bridge over the interstate will be reduced to one travel lane for the work to proceed.

Duxbury-Bolton

The town of Bolton’s road repair and slope stabilization project on Duxbury Road continues and town officials say its on schedule to be completed by Nov. 18. (River Road in Duxbury turns into Duxbury Road in Bolton.)

The extensive work has necessitated a full closure of a section of the road.

The Bolton town update on Friday, Oct. 31, noted that the installation of a Scourlok-brand streambank erosion control system has begun.

The approximate 1/4-mile stretch affected is between the Long Trail footbridge over the Winooski River and Honey Hollow Road. All vehicle traffic through this section currently needs to use U.S. Route 2 between Jonesville and Waterbury. Hikers on the Long Trail and other walkers can use a flagged temporary detour across private land. This detour is not open to cyclists or any motorized vehicles.

The work is needed after flooding caused erosion damage to the road and riverbank in 2024. The project is weather-dependent. The Bolton town website and Facebook page are posting project updates weekly or as needed during the work period and will note any schedule changes.

More information regarding the pedestrian detour is available on the Green Mountain Club website.

Fayston

Road Closure

On Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 3-5, a 600-foot section of Center Fayston Road will be closed for tree removal by Washington Electric.

The closure will be at a location just north of the intersection with Randell Road, lasting from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, according to an announcement from the town office. The notice also shared a GPS location. During this time, Randell Road will remain open and will serve as a detour route.

The electric utility requested this temporary closure to safely remove large pine trees growing into power lines along Center Fayston Road. Town officials ask residents to plan accordingly and use caution when traveling in this area.

I-89: Waterbury-Montpelier southbound

Motorists should continue to expect delays during the hours listed below, due to southbound lane closures between Exit 10 Waterbury/Stowe and Exit 8 Montpelier.

The speed limit remains lowered to 55 mph and fines are doubled in the project zone.

Crews have completed new guardrail installation and shoulder work throughout the project area for the 2025 construction season.

Monday-Friday, Nov. 3-7:

Between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., crews will wrap up project clean-up work ahead of winter shutdown. This will include covering construction signage for wintertime.

Project officials have issued their final work update for 2025. Work will resume on this project next spring with updates ahead of work commencing in late April. The targeted completion for the project is mid-August 2026. Anyone interested in receiving future VTrans email updates on the project may sign up at this link online
