Stowe Street bridge gets a new light

The traffic snarls and slowdowns this past week continued as Vermont Agency of Transportation officials asked for the public’s patience while crews put the finishing touches on the Stowe Street bridge project.
A new traffic signal has been installed to direct vehicles turning north onto Vermont Route 100 from the bridge. Lines on the bridge below will be repainted to indicate the dedicated turn lane before the project is finished.
For the coming week, motorists should expect lane and shoulder closures on Route 100 northbound between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. There also likely will be delays along the stretch of Route 100 at and near the intersection with Stowe Street and Blush Hill. Flaggers and a uniformed traffic officer will be present to direct motorists through the work zone.
Work for the week of Sept. 22:
The construction crew will install 900 linear feet of granite curbing this week.
Project reminders:
Motorists are asked to stay alert and not follow trucks while traveling through the work zone.
The Lincoln Street Park and Ride lot remains closed, with a temporary lot available downtown at the State Office Complex along Park Row at the end of Randall Street. Commuter buses also are using that lot, with the Rural Community Transit buses also stopping at Shaw’s on Rt. 100.

Guardrail and shoulder work continued this past week. Additional milling and paving was done near the Exit 8/Montpelier and 9/Middlesex interchanges.
Work for the week of Sept. 22:
Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Milling and paving various locations throughout the project will take place. Shoulder work and guardrail installation will continue.
Overnight Monday-Tuesday 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.: Weather permitting, crews will mill and pave the travel lane and on/off acceleration lanes at Exit 8 in Montpelier. Project officials note that the timing of nighttime work may shift due to weather conditions.
This is a two-year, 10.5-mile resurfacing project to rebuild both travel lanes.
The project is anticipated to last through this construction season and next summer, with completion targeted by Aug. 15, 2026, according to the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
