Road Work | Week of Sept. 8-11
September 4, 2026 | By Waterbury RoundaboutState and local road work crews will be off for the Labor Day holiday on Monday. The activity below is for Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 8-11.
Weekly Road Work reports are assembled with information from the Vermont Agency of Transportation on projects in the region, the Waterbury Public Works Department, and other local highway departments for projects in Waterbury and neighboring communities as necessary.
Motorists are reminded to drive with caution through work zones and to follow posted speed limits. Speeding fines are doubled in work areas along the interstate.
Waterbury
Waterbury Highway Department Supervisor Celia Clark says that local crews will be working on small projects this coming week, none of which should cause any disruptions to traffic. Motorists are asked to slow down near work areas and to give the crews doing mowing, ditch work, etc. plenty of space.
Stowe
River Road in Stowe will remain closed to through traffic for several culvert replacements, likely through this week. Crews were to begin with the culvert near 80 River Road and work their way towards Moscow Road last week and this coming week. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes during this project.
Bolton
Paving and final work on Duxbury Road was nearing completion as of Sept. 4 between Honey Hollow Road and the Bolton/Duxbury town line. The project was to repair the road section damaged in a storm earlier this summer. One lane was to remain open through the paving work, but motorists should expect some short delays. Updates will be posted here, on the town website, the Town of Bolton Facebook page, and Front Porch Forum.
Interstate 89 | Richmond-Waterbury, southbound

Over the past week, crews milled the Exit 11 southbound ramps and within the Exit 11 area in Richmond. Paving in the project zone continued along with guardrail work.
No work is planned for Monday, the Labor Day holiday. From Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 8-11, crews will be working both during the daytime and overnight throughout the project area.
Note: On Thursday night, Sept. 10, there will be ramp closures at the Exit 10 southbound on/off ramps in Waterbury overnight.
Motorists can expect one-lane travel between Exits 11 in Richmond and 10 in Waterbury this week. Drivers are urged to use both lanes to the merge point and should anticipate slow-moving travel and uneven lanes.
Here is a schedule breakdown for this week:
DAYTIME: Tuesday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.:
Continue final paving of the wearing (top) course
Continued guardrail work
NIGHT WORK: Tuesday through Thursday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.: Shoulder work to include berm removal.
NIGHT WORK/RAMP CLOSURES at EXIT 10: Weather permitting, on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday, the Waterbury Exit 10 southbound on/off ramps will be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles. Motorists will have a signed detour to follow. Crews will be working on milling.
Reminders: Do not follow construction vehicles into the work zone. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph; fines will be doubled.
Interstate 89 | Waterbury-Montpelier, southbound
The resurfacing project on Interstate 89 southbound between Waterbury and Montpelier is close to completion.
No work is planned for Monday, the Labor Day holiday.
From Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will continue general clean-up in the project zone between Waterbury Exit 10 and Montpelier Exit 8 southbound.
Motorists should expect minor delays during working hours due to intermittent southbound lane closures.
Reminder: the speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and fines are doubled.
