April 14, 2026 | By Waterbury Roundabout A Barre woman driving on U.S. Route 2 in Waterbury went off the road on Monday, avoiding a collision with a stopped school bus as a student was stepping off the bus, according to Vermont State Police.
The incident happened a few minutes after 4 p.m. as school buses were making their afternoon drop-offs. Trooper Mae Murdock said Christa Lampman, 52 of Barre, was headed southbound on Rt. 2 in a 203 Honda Element.
Murdock’s report explained that Lampman “came upon a stopped school bus that had its red lights illuminated and a juvenile was actively getting off the school bus. Lampman reported a vehicular malfunction, resulting in her going off the roadway and striking shrubbery.”
The car did not collide with the bus, the report notes.
This incident occurred near the Rt. 2 intersection with Farrs Landing. The weather was rainy and the roadway was wet, the police report noted. Lampman, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured. Her Honda had some front-end damage, Murdock reported.
