LETTER: Enthusiastic support for Martha Staskus for select board
February 27, 2026 | By John Zimmerman
To the Waterbury Community:
I am writing to enthusiastically support Martha Staskus for a 1-year seat on the Waterbury Select Board. Having worked alongside Martha for over 30 years as her business partner at our environmental consulting firm here in Waterbury, I have had a front-row seat to the leadership, integrity, and dedication she brings to a challenge.
Martha has been instrumental in establishing our firm’s leadership in renewable energy development throughout New England. Success in building these projects requires much more than technical expertise; it needs heart, patience, and the ability to bring together diverse stakeholders, including federal and state leaders, local businesses, and neighbors. Martha’s success in navigating these complex, often high-stakes assignments is visible today in operating projects across our region.
In addition to this work experience, Martha has consistently stepped up to serve our town. Her years of service on the Waterbury Development Review Board and leadership as chair of the Planning Commission demonstrate her deep commitment to our community’s future.
Martha possesses the ability to balance technical and legal requirements with practical project management and budget oversight. Martha brings a steady demeanor and a respectful, common-sense approach to municipal governance. She understands how to weigh economic, environmental, and community interests to find a path forward for Waterbury.
Our town needs the seasoned leadership and clear communication skills that Martha offers. I urge my fellow voters to support her for select board so we will have her continued dedication to the town we call home.
Sincerely,
John L. Zimmerman
