Sen. Sanders: Winter fuel, electric, weatherization help is available

October 6, 2026

Dear fellow Vermonter,

With winter around the corner and thousands of folks living paycheck to paycheck, I know many Vermonters are worried about keeping their families and themselves warm through the season. The good news is that assistance is available to help eligible Vermonters afford their heating and electric bills and weatherize their homes. There is also assistance available to repair and replace furnaces and fuel tanks.

My office has put together some information about available programs and services. Please do not hesitate to take advantage of these programs and help spread the word in your communities. Nobody in Vermont should go cold in the winter.

If you need help navigating fuel assistance programs, reach out to your local Community Action Agency. You can find one that serves your area at https://dcf.vermont.gov/contacts/partners/caps or by calling 2-1-1. And as always, don’t hesitate to contact my office if you have questions or need assistance. You can reach us by calling 802-862-0697 or our toll-free number 1-800-339-9834.

You may also be interested to know that I recently led 19 of my colleagues in demanding that the Trump administration nearly double the funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) so that more eligible people can get assistance this winter. As a result of the war in Iran, the cost of home heating has skyrocketed, and we’re going to need additional funds to cover the growing needs of the American people.

Don’t wait to apply! Get this process started today to get the assistance you need.

See more information in this VT Fuel Assistance Flyer.
