Touring to support her debut album, singer-songwriter Becca Hannah stops at the Big Picture Theater and Café this Friday, July 24.
Originally from Boston and now based in Los Angeles, Hannah’s sound blends jazz, alt-R&B, soul and blues into songs that feel both vintage and immediate.
Her current East Coast tour includes shows at iconic venues such as The Sultan Room in Brooklyn, and Boston’s City Winery.
“Outside of Vermont, and off-stage, life moves way too fast. Singing and surrounding myself in nature helps balance my internal chaos,” Hannah said.
A lifelong vocalist and multi-instrumentalist on guitar and piano, Hannah channels influences from Amy Winehouse and Nora Jones while forging a distinct musical identity. The Philadelphia Inquirer praised her “smoky, old-school R&B” delivery, and Creative Executive Lens wrote, “With a voice as smooth as satin and lyrics that breathe truth into the quietest corners of the soul.”
Hannah is accompanied on stage by guitarist, songwriter and producer, Tristan Jantz, who also co-wrote and produced their album.
“Throughout this process, we wove our stories together, creating something that feels deeply personal for both of us,” Hannah explains. “Tonight In My Dreams” was tracked live with a nine-piece ensemble and recorded and mixed by seven-time Grammy winner Jim Scott, whose credits include Tom Petty, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Vermont talent Grace Potter.
Onstage, Hannah prefers to move through moods, “letting stream-of-consciousness feeling lead the music,” she says.
Expect soulful arrangements, honest songwriting, and a voice that lingers long after the final chord. Catch this old-soul voice with a modern twist, in Waitsfield for one night, on Friday.
Tickets: $25. Doors at 7:30 p.m.; music at 8 p.m. More information and advance tickets online here. Read more about Hannah from her label, Big Hassle, here.
Hannah’s Waitsfield concert is sponsored by The Bigger Picture Community Fund, a nonprofit formed to support The Big Picture venue as an arts and culture hub in the Mad River Valley.
