Efforts of the Friends of Waterbury Reservoir to protect and improve the reservoir continue into fall. The Friends’ annual meeting is Oct. 17 and will include a wildlife presentation by the program manager at Audubon Vermont’s Priority Bird and Working Lands Initiatives to discuss the comeback of bald eagles in Vermont.

August has arrived, bringing lots of activity on the reservoir. Warm muggy days have brought out the boaters, swimmers, and campers, and the state parks staff have been very busy.

We welcomed summer with a high-water event causing temporary closure of some state park facilities around the reservoir, tornado warnings, and a blistering few days of uncomfortable heat and humidity.

Summer is almost here and the Waterbury Reservoir is beginning to burst with activity! People are swimming, paddling, fishing, and boating, and the wildlife and birds are coming back in great numbers.

Some thoughts as autumn marches by: We have loved being surrounded by the fabulous fall colors, no matter how muted or brilliant the foliage season may have been. We were forced to tolerate the increase in traffic and tourists, but those of us fortunate enough to get out on the water had the best experience!

Summer has made a steamy, muggy and hot entrance. The warm weather and holiday weekend brought many visitors to the reservoir, keeping rangers, park staff, vendors, and our Aquatic Invasive Species greeters very busy.

This spring on the Waterbury Reservoir, rain-resilient anglers, paddlers, boaters, and campers have seen signs of the reservoir coming to life after a bleak winter.
