HUUSD Board: Info. sessions happen Feb. 4 & 19 ahead of school budget vote
February 2, 2026Dear Harwood community,
We write to ask you to consider supporting the Harwood Unified Union School District budget on or before Town Meeting Day, Tuesday, March 3.
At its January 21 meeting, the HUUSD Board unanimously approved the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget of $51,884,847 for recommendation to voters. The final proposal reflects a 5.44% year-over-year budget increase and a 4.8% increase in cost per pupil.
This proposal reflects months of careful work by the administration and board to balance fiscal responsibility with our commitment to high-quality public education. To remain below the state’s excess spending threshold, which would result in residents being double-taxed on spending above that level, the district made approximately $1,036,325 in reductions from a level-service budget. As in prior years, these were difficult decisions focused on minimizing impact to classrooms wherever possible.
It is important to note that Vermont’s education finance system continues to create significant pressure for districts like ours. Because of our relative property wealth and the way student needs are weighted in the state formula, HUUSD is particularly constrained by the current funding structure.
