Road Work | Nov. 10-14

November 10, 2025 | By Lisa Scagliotti

Weekly Road Work reports are assembled with information from the Vermont Agency of Transportation on projects in the region, the Waterbury Public Works Department, and other local highway departments for projects in Waterbury and neighboring communities as necessary.

Motorists are reminded to drive with caution through work zones and to follow posted speed limits. Speeding fines are doubled in work areas.

Work on the Stowe Street bridge project is now complete. Project leaders, however, have one last request of local residents and travelers familiar with the bridge: sharing feedback.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation has a short survey asking for input on the bridge construction and communication throughout the project, which began in mid-June. Find that short online survey here.

The Stowe Street bridge construction was a $4.34 million Vermont Agency of Transportation project replacing the two-lane bridge built in 1928 over the Thatcher Brook near the intersection of Stowe Street, Vermont Route 100 and Blush Hill Road.

Waterbury | Rt. 100 at I-89

The Vermont Agency of Transportation has a short project underway on Vermont Route 100 on the bridge over Interstate 89. The work is being done at night. It began last week later than scheduled, and may continue into this week. The work is weather-dependent and is being done at night between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. The stretch of Rt. 100 at the interchange involving the bridge over the interstate will be reduced to one travel lane for the work to proceed. An end date has not been announced. It is likely to be this week.

The town of Bolton’s road repair and slope stabilization project on Duxbury Road continues and town officials say it’s on schedule to be completed by Nov. 18. (River Road in Duxbury turns into Duxbury Road in Bolton.)

The extensive work has necessitated a full closure of a section of the road.

The Bolton town update on Friday, Nov. 7, noted that the closure is expected to be in place until Nov. 18.

The approximate 1/4-mile stretch affected is between the Long Trail footbridge over the Winooski River and Honey Hollow Road. All vehicle traffic through this section currently needs to use U.S. Route 2 between Jonesville and Waterbury. Hikers on the Long Trail and other walkers can use a flagged temporary detour across private land. This detour is not open to cyclists or any motorized vehicles.

The work is needed after flooding caused erosion damage to the road and riverbank in 2024. The project is weather-dependent. The Bolton town website and Facebook page are posting project updates weekly or as needed during the work period and will note any schedule changes.

More information regarding the pedestrian detour is available on the Green Mountain Club website.

On Thursday, Nov. 13, Crossett Hill Road will be blocked to through traffic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A crane will be set up in the road to remove some large trees at 3095 Crossett Hill Road. This work was scheduled but did not happen in October due to a crane malfunction.

Residents will be able to leave and return to the right or left during this closure. The photo here is marked with a red square indicating the location for the crane.

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, and running until Nov. 20, Moretown Common Road will be closed for a culvert replacement project. The closure will be between both intersections with Farnham Road—between addresses 2318 and 2565 (the area known as Foster’s Corner).

The road is scheduled to be open to one lane for traffic on Nov. 20. Reopening to two lanes is scheduled for Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. with a temporary barrier in place if the guardrail is not yet installed. A one-day closure may be needed for guardrail installation (date to be determined). In announcing the closure, town officials apologized for the short notice and inconvenience.  Motorists should seek alternate routes.

School bus changes
