Road Work | Nov. 17-21

November 15, 2025 | By Lisa Scagliotti

Nov. 18: This post was updated with details on the Rt. 100 project near the I-89 interchange in Waterbury.

This should be the final Road Work report for this season, as most projects have been completed or will be paused until spring.

Road Work reports are assembled with information from the Vermont Agency of Transportation on projects in the region, the Waterbury Public Works Department, and other local highway departments for projects in Waterbury and neighboring communities as necessary.

Motorists are reminded to drive with caution through work zones and to follow posted speed limits. Speeding fines are doubled in work areas.

Bridge project survey

The Vermont Agency of Transportation’s survey regarding the Stowe Street bridge construction project this summer and fall will remain open until Monday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m. Click here to offer your feedback. The survey should take just 5 minutes.

Waterbury | Rt. 100 at I-89

The Vermont Agency of Transportation has a short project underway on Vermont Route 100 on the bridge over Interstate 89 that’s been plagued with delays due to wintry weather conditions.

The work is being done at night, and it began later than scheduled. The project has removed the median to facilitate the movement of traffic when the roadway is down to one lane. Work involves concrete repairs to the deck and multiple bridge joints and installing new asphaltic plug joints, according to VTrans.

The stretch of Rt. 100 involving the bridge over the interstate will be reduced to one travel lane while work is in progress. Crews will be working, weather-permitting, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. until it is completed. Motorists are asked to drive through the project zone with caution, given nighttime and wintry conditions.

As of Friday, Nov. 14, Bolton officials say work to rebuild a stretch of Duxbury Road along the Winooski River is nearly complete.

“Despite the snow, work remains on track and the team expects to have the road re-opened on Wednesday, Nov. 19,” the Friday update on the town’s Facebook page noted. Officials will share more by Tuesday, Nov. 18.

The extensive road repair and slope stabilization work this month has necessitated a full closure of a section of the road. (River Road in Duxbury turns into Duxbury Road in Bolton.)

The approximate 1/4-mile stretch affected is between the Long Trail footbridge over the Winooski River and Honey Hollow Road. All vehicle traffic through this section currently needs to use U.S. Route 2 between Jonesville and Waterbury. Hikers on the Long Trail and other walkers can use a flagged temporary detour across private land. This detour is not open to cyclists or any motorized vehicles.

The work is needed after flooding caused erosion damage to the road and riverbank in 2024. The project is weather-dependent. The Bolton town website and Facebook page are posting project updates weekly or as needed during the work period and will note any schedule changes.

More information regarding the pedestrian detour is available on the Green Mountain Club website.

Common Road closure

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, and running until Nov. 20, Moretown Common Road will be closed for a culvert replacement project. The closure will be between both intersections with Farnham Road—between addresses 2318 and 2565 (the area known as Foster’s Corner).

The road is scheduled to be open to one lane for traffic on Nov. 20. Reopening to two lanes is scheduled for Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. with a temporary barrier in place if the guardrail is not yet installed. A one-day closure may be needed for guardrail installation (date to be determined). In announcing the closure, town officials apologized for the short notice and inconvenience.  Motorists should seek alternate routes.

School bus changes

During the road closure, the Harwood Unified Union School District has announced some temporary adjustments for Bus 8’s route in this area starting with the afternoon bus runs on Tuesday, Nov. 11. These times may be adjusted once they are running, school officials said.

  • Afternoon: The Moretown Elementary School drop off will be at 2:30 p.m. at Common Road and Howes Road, or at 2:55 p.m. at Vermont Route 100B and the Common Road. The Harwood Middle/High School drop-off at Rt. 100B and Common Road will be at 3:54 p.m. or at Common Road and Howes Road at 4:07 p.m.

  • Morning: For the Moretown Elementary School pickup, meet at Moretown Common Road and Howes Road at 6:59 a.m. or at Route 100B and the Common Road at 7:12 a.m. For the Harwood Middle/High School pickup, meet at Moretown Common Road and Howes Road at 7:57 a.m. or Route 100B and the Common Road at 8:10 a.m.
