Macon Phillips: Write-in for Warren's HUUSD School Board seat
February 24, 2026To the Community,
I'm Macon Phillips, and I'm running as a write-in candidate for the Warren seat on the Harwood Unified Union School District Board. I'm asking for your vote on Town Meeting Day, March 3, at Warren Elementary School.
My family returned to Vermont during the pandemic, settling in Warren after 15 years in D.C. Our kids now attend Warren Elementary and Harwood Middle School.
I started my career in Burlington as an AmeriCorps*VISTA, helping launch the DREAM Program — a mentoring organization still active today. That experience shaped my belief that schools are the backbone of strong communities.
I went on to found the White House Office of Digital Strategy under President Obama, lead public diplomacy at the State Department, and serve as Chief Digital Officer at CARE, the international humanitarian organization. Today, I run Starling Strategy, a consulting firm based in Waterbury that helps mission-driven organizations connect with the people they serve.
Since being appointed to fill the vacant Warren seat on Feb. 11, I've focused on three priorities. First, preparing students for a changing world — embracing career pathways, vocational programs, and new approaches to learning alongside strong academics. Second, strengthening schools as community anchors — places where students learn active citizenship and engage with the wider world. Third, going beyond the annual budget battle — understanding the real cost drivers, from unfunded mandates to rising healthcare expenses, so we can advocate together for changes that actually work.
I know how busy life is for the working families doing the Route 100 shuffle every day. Those are the people I'm keeping front of mind. I've shared a few more thoughts here.
Please write in “Macon Phillips” (“Macon,” like “bacon”), on Town Meeting Day, or vote early at the Warren Town Office. And write to me with any questions or ideas at mp@maconphillips.com.
Thank you for your consideration!
