The Monday, Aug. 3, Harwood Fun Run turnout was a little smaller than usual given the stormy weather. But those who made it were treated to a full rainbow when they arrived at the high school.

Organizers mixed up the format a bit, mapping out 3K and 6K courses, according to Harwood Middle School Cross Country Coach Serena Wilcox.

The 6K had a three-way tie: Vince Wing, Patrick Migonis and Brody Hackett came across the finish line in 27:07. Dan Dix followed with a time of 27:30. Alison Migonis was the first female at 30:40, followed by Sierra Dix in 31:38 and Harmony Devoe with 35:52; Andy Metcalf finished in 36:09.

In the 3K, Jacob Rye was first with a time of 13:26, followed by Serena Wilcox in 16:10. Jackson Migonis was the race lead biker.

The next Fun Run is Monday, Aug. 10. All are welcome to join in, and proceeds support the Harwood Cross Country team. (More details below.)

Many new faces were in the pack of 20 runners who turned out for the Harwood Fun Run on Monday, July 27.

The course was in great shape, winding through meadows and wooded trails with rolling hills, said Harwood Middle School Cross Country Coach Serena Wilcox. “Recent dry weather made for fast footing, although the warm, humid conditions meant pacing still mattered,” she said.

Four youngsters took part in the kids race. “All finished with smiles,” Wilcox said.

Four runners participated in the 3K race: Stephanie Dix finished first in 18:36, followed by Elizabeth Managan in 22:51, Henry Managan in 25:01, and Heidi Higgins in 25:02.

Results for the 5K: Vince Wing, first place in 20:39; second place, Dan Dix at 20:59; third, Alison Mignois in 21:24; fourth, George Deane at 23:31 and Mollie Deane in 29:50 for fifth. They were followed by Andy Metcalf in 29:55; Harmony Devoe with a time of 30:08; Hazel Deane at 33:36; Dacia Portnoy in 34:10, Jess Deane at 34:32, Fred Gillen in 34:40, and Asher Murray with a time of 37:45.

Harwood Cross Country’s Monday Fun Runs are a summertime community event. “Whether you're racing for a personal best or simply enjoying an evening on the trails, the welcoming atmosphere and scenic course make it worthwhile,” Wilcox said.

The next Fun Run is Monday, Aug. 10. Registration starts at 6 p.m. Kids’ Race begins at 6:20 p.m.; the 3K/5K start at 6:30 p.m.

Harwood Union High School’s varsity Cross Country team hosts Summer Fun Runs every Monday through Aug. 17.

The cost is $5 per runner; no charge for runners age 6 and under. All proceeds support the Harwood team’s trip to the Maine Festival of Champions in Belfast, Maine, on Oct. 3.
