Middle school’s maples: Showy, but subdued
Crossett Brook Middle School’s driveway maples put on a popular fall foliage display each year. But this fall, the iconic scene so far is a little subdued. Here’s a virtual visit.
Northern Lights above Waterbury
The Northern Lights were out the weekend and readers were capturing the sight on Sunday, Sept. 14. Here are some photos they shared with the Waterbury Roundabout.
Summer scenes 2025
Summertime is winding down and that chill in the morning hints that fall foliage — and foliage photos — can’t be far behind. But first, here’s a peek at some of Waterbury Roundabout photographer Gordon Miller’s work over the past few weeks.
Hoops with Bernie
It was all in a busy Saturday-day’s work for Vermont’s senior U.S. Senator recently, but it’s pretty possible that the hour Sen. Bernie Sanders spent at Brookside Primary School in Waterbury was the fun highlight on his June 14 schedule.
Green Up volunteers clean up
Scenes from Green Up 2025 as volunteers fanned out around town and brought in many loads of trash.
The Night for Spotted Salamanders
The first warm, rainy evening of spring marks Big Night, when native amphibians set out on a mass migration from their underground winter hideaways back to their birthplace vernal pools and ponds to breed. Shawnee Perry caught this spectacle on such a night recently.
2024 Holiday festivities around town
Holiday celebrations filled the calendar this month. Included here are scenes from photographer Gordon Miller who caught reindeer and Santa Finn visiting on Stowe Street, Santa in the Park at Rusty Parker and the Vt. National Guard’s Santa convoy.
One Saturday in Waterbury: Pumpkin chuckin’, puppy cuddles and turkeys galore
One recent Saturday morning was particularly busy in Waterbury as people gathered for some semi-serious pumpkin-chuckin' competition at Dac Rowe Park, some very serious cuddles with a litter of husky sled dog puppies at the Waterbury Public Library, and a festive, bustling turkey and holiday food drive drop-off along South Main Street at the Waterbury Common Market.
Halloween 2024
The warmest Halloween in memory brought out a larger-than-usual crowd of witches, goblins, ghosts and more of all ages in downtown Waterbury this Halloween.
Davis Farm cows come home
A dozen Holsteins moved back to their barn from their summer pasture last week at the Davis Farm on Kneeland Flats Road in Waterbury Center. Photographer Gordon Miller captured the scene in his travels.

May 10: Northern Lights
Barely a month after the Total Solar Eclipse, the skies over Vermont put on a spectacular lights show on Friday, May 10, as the Aurora Borealis was extraordinarily active across the Northern Hemisphere. We share a gallery from reader submissions around the region.
Easter Parade & Egg Hunt 2024
Waterbury Rotary Club’s annual rite of springtime managed to fall right in between spring’s two giant snowstorms as hundreds of youngsters and their families met up at Pilgrim Park for the Easter parade and egg hunt.
Springtime snow, sun… repeat
We know better than to think winter’s run its course while the calendar still says “March” and the first day of spring has sprung.
Straddling winter & spring
Early March swings from winter to spring and back again, often in the course of one morning. Snow and sun. And mud.
In the final days of 2021, Jesse McDougall took his snowboard and video camera up to Sugarbush Resort in Warren where he met Waterbury Center's Avery Bard.
